April end up about 2 – 3 degrees colder than normal after our 1-2 degree warm than normal March. The below map shows the temperature anomalies from normal, globally for April:
We will have to see what happens with May to judge how the spring weather turned out and in comparison to the long range forecast (which was for an above normal spring). Meteorological Spring is March, April, May, despite the calendar solstice.
Everyone should get out and enjoy this Friday and Saturday’s weather as temperatures should be 19 – 24c across the province before a cold front moves in Saturday night with some rain. Sunday will be cloudy and should eventually clear out but be cooler for Mother’s Day ( sorry Moms 😦 ). Things look to warm up again Monday Tuesday, before unsettled weather and cooler temps move in from Wednesday into next weekend. I would still use caution before planting anything as the above normal weather doesn’t look to move in until closer to the long weekend. I typically wait for that weekend before planting outside.
